Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) won his second stage at this Giro d'Italia, atop the Corno alle Scale climb, in doing so taking his 50th career victory. The Dane followed the initial attack from Felix Gall (Decathlon CMA CGM), who confirmed himself again to be Vingegaard's closest rival. Gall's Decathlon team had paced all day and were vindicated by the Austrian's performance, which not only earned him another second place finish, but also put time into his rivals, particularly Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) who was the main casualty, who finished 01:28 back on the stage.

Vingegaard's teammate Davide Piganzoli impressed coming third ahead of Thymen Arensman (Netcompany INEOS) and the pink jersey Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious) who will hold onto the maglia rosa going into Monday's rest day.
It turned out to be GC day. Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) had looked set for the stage, but was caught in the final 2km by the attacking Gall with Vingegaard's on the Austrian's wheel.
